Ecological Services - Terrestrial Ecology

Ecological services in the terrestrial environment provided by ECOFACT include habitat surveys and mapping, botanical surveys and fauna surveys to identify the principal vegetative and animal communities present at a site. Initial surveys seek to identify the baseline communities at a site. This can be followed by an evaluation of the ecological communities present, and an impact assessment of a proposed project. Monitoring during the construction and operation of a project is also often undertaken.

Terrestrial ecological services provided by ECOFACT have included detailed surveys for flora and fauna along the routes of proposed infrastructure such as roads and pipelines, and at individual development sites. The range of flora and fauna surveys frequently undertaken by ECOFACT are listed below.

Habitat and Flora Surveys:

  • Habitat assessments and classification
  • Digital habitat mapping
  • Rare plant and sensitive / Annex I habitat surveys
  • Invasive / non-native species surveys and control
  • Statistical analysis of flora or habitat distributions

Fauna Assessments:

  • Terrestrial mammal surveys (with emphasis on protected species including badgers bats and otters)
  • Bird surveys
  • Reptile and amphibian surveys (including habitat suitability assessments, capture, numeration and relocation)
  • Terrestrial invertebrate surveys
